I’d love to see something like barbell gain, but also including other equipment as assistance work.
Like: you select 3 to 6 barbell lifts (exercise cluster) and the journey will make you progress on these lifts with high frequency and standard strength progressions. As it happens in barbell gain already.
But then you will have some days (or some intervals within a barbell session - depending on how many days per week you train and time availabilty) where you hit dumbells and/or machines with more hypertrophy-oriented work.
In other words, fairly similar to ultimate strength, but:
1- currently in ultimate strength the barbell exercises are too many and this doesn’t allow for ideal frequency to actually improve significantly (like you might end up doing back squat or bench press every 3 or 4 weeks, not enough!).
2- after the main lift, intervals with dumbells, kettlebells or other are always sacrificing intensity for density: rest periods are too shorts, reps often too many. It becomes very cardio-ish, good for general fitness, but not good for actual strength development nor hypertrophy.
