Apple Health entries missing data since last app update

I saw this reply from a Freeletics Ambassador in the other thread. There is no date for a fix, but it’s been disabled right now.

My Apple rings stay open because of this, and it’s a big let down. I did a workout, and got super annoyed when my rings didn’t move :frowning:

Same happened for me today! On Tuesday (and before that) calories was registered, today only training minutes were registered with 0 calories. Sucks when you’re trying to close all rings.

Hey @here :waving_hand:

Thank you to everyone for posting on here about this topic :folded_hands:

So we did recently remove calorie data from being shared with Apple Health because we were not happy with the way this estimate was being calculated :gear:

However, we all understand how important it is for you to have this data available — even if the estimate isn’t perfect.

So, while the underlying calculation hasn’t changed yet, we’ve decided to re-enable calorie sharing :counterclockwise_arrows_button: in an upcoming update to give you the option to use it as part of your overall health tracking. We’re also continuing to explore ways to improve the accuracy in future updates :magnifying_glass_tilted_left:.

Thanks for the feedback everyone, and for being part of our community :+1:t3:

Same problem here!! Indeed, accurate or not that was part of our routine, hence it’s super annoying totally missing one day. Btw, because of this I just disabled automatic updates. Please fix it asap!

Great to hear. Thank you for this.

As a small request - could things like this be mentioned in release notes pushed with new versions to the app store? In the last update that removed this - the release notes were generic and didn’t really bring much. Disabling a feature would to me be a big enough change to merit a mention there.

I have a similar issue. The change happened on July17 for my phone. Apple Health still records that I have worked out, the durations and times of the workouts, but Apple Health no longer calculates calories burned for the workouts and the workouts no longer contribute to the day’s Active Energy or Activity categories. I have deleted Freeletics and reinstalled it; and I have called Apple Support and made sure all permissions have been granted for data sharing between Freeletics and Apple Health, but Apple Support said that’s all they can do on their end and told me it must be something on the Freeletics side of things.

Can you tell us please in which version will be corrected? There was an update available 2 days ago (so after the update of 17th of July that introduced the bug), but it didn’t fix the issue, I just finished a workout and calories are missing.

If Cal data is not correct then it would probably be best to leave it disabled rather than having incorrect data.
For people using Apple watch it would be best to start workout directly from built in workout tracker from Apple watch.
I don’t get why someone would want to have incorrect data. It defeats the whole purpose then.
Especially if Calories written are over estimated. Gives people false sense of accomplishment.

What is the difference between this vs Freeletics app? Is it a significant difference between calorie calculation?

It’s crazy to me that they would just disable it and not say anything to the members. It’s like when they just discontinued the watch app. Even if it was counting calories wrong…we have a baseline on the app. People are in the midst of training sessions and they just “disable” it. We need to waste our time trying to find solutions and only to find it on this forum. They can push out notifications to try to peddle anything that can line their pockets but not push notifications when they trash their members.

Just trash. Does anyone have any recommendations for a new fitness app?

Having used Apple workout HIIT vs Freeletics recording for a 1 hour workout it about 400 calories Vs 600 calories. Thus, an approx 50% overestimation from Freeletics recording from my experience- not insignificant!

You won’t get a really accurate value out of even Apple’s measurements.
It’s not a big secret almost every system for regular users (as in not high quality lab grade equipment) will give you bogus data to some extent.

Take the most expensive Withings body scale. The measurements of body fat vs muscle are so bad, it’s not even funny (I should be dead if I believed what they said). Same with Apple. They constantly underestimate the amount of steps or distances you make, when compared with the real world.

The problem here was not that Freeletics was inaccurate. That is very commendable that the team is trying to improve the calculations and make them more accurate.

The problem is that the feature went away without a warning. The release notes are there for this reason. Let your users know what changed, instead of a generic - we fixed some bugs. This is not a bug fix. I am fairly sure if we got that message - that they don’t like the feature and are temporarily disabling it (which honestly I don’t think is necessary, but rather introduce a new way of calculating and replace the old one in a single update with no downtime) - that would not have gotten people so riled up.

Another thing is that for you - the calculations might be wrong. But what does your body tell you? As I mentioned above - for me - their calculations still worked. I used the data from Freeletics, Cronometer would account for that in my daily caloric expenditure - and with a modest deficit - I was still able to lose weight that pretty much matched the deficit I was targetting. Sure, there were fluctuations, but the net loss is pretty much on the target.

Just an update @here, that we should get this back in to Beta next week, then if all goes well, should roll out to everyone a week later :+1:

I’m still not getting calorie data in this apple health and fitness apps. Has this been fixed yet?

For me the data started working with the latest upgrade.

Same here. I aim for a modest surplus, on days of a Freeletics workout I was adding additional calories based on what it told me. Been doing that for months and…I’ve gained a very modest amount of weight. So either I have a crazy metabolism or it’s roughly accurate.

I’d be interested to hear more details on what developers think about this issue and what the supporting data is. There’s a huge amount of noise in the fitness industry about these estimates being too high but from what I’ve found very little research.
