I used to do weight-free training journeys and these were perfect with a lot of variantions. Now, I’m in the second week of Barbell gain journey, because I got access to all the equipment. I train four times a week and the coach give me two lower body sessions and two upper body session.
I have two problems with the journey
both session are always the same or very very similar
upper body: bench press + push press + bent row + strict pull ups (always these four excercises)
The biggest problem is that the coach still offers me strict pullups for even if I provided the correct feedback: “It was very hard” and “I need replace at least one excercise”
What should I do in order to EXCLUDE strict pull ups and replace it with easier variant (e.g. including ressitance band).
I’m aware of this feature … and good point. Btw. If I excluded it, coach just removed it from the workout and did not replace it.
Doing a strict pullup is my ultimate goal and I WANT to do it (later). I can see there’s assisted version and I’m wondering why the coach does not suggest it instead. This was the case when I did weight-free training so that it replaced the excercises with simpler version.
Answering only 2., as I haven’t done this journey and cannot answer 1…
How many times did you say to Coach you couldn’t do any strict pullups? I don’t have the info on how many times it needs to hear it before suggesting to you an easier version, but I’d guess it could need more than once? And from your side, just do either negative or assisted pullups when you see strict pullups for now.
Btw. If I excluded it, coach just removed it from the workout and did not replace it.
I don’t understand why this is not a solution for you. If you exclude it, it would be removed, and the workouts would be recalculated. You may not see an assisted pullup on the same day directly, but in theory Coach would cycle through other available exercises, of which assisted and negative pullups are some.
To summarize, you can go ahead with either excluding pullups or saying to Coach a couple more times that you cannot do them. I personally would go with the latter but either would be fine.
This TJ has a fixed structure for all users. The only variable that changes is the suggested weight, while the choice of exercises and the number of repetitions remain unchanged. The only solution I can think of is to perform a simpler variation of the strict pull-ups and then indicate in the feedback that it wasn’t possible to complete even one repetition. It’s really a shame not to have even a minimal level of customization in these barbell sessions.
I thought all the journeys are similar - variety of excercises, God workouts, Hell week. Okay … in this case, Hell week is not mentioned in the description. But still, it can be better documented.
Okay, I’m going to adapt my training strategy and/or change TJ.
