Improving my flexibility + stretching at work

Hello,

I’ve been consistently training with Freeletics for a few months now and I can clearly see progress, especially with the god workouts, where I’m smashing my previous records.

However, I’m still very inflexible, which makes it hard for me to do some of the movements suggested in the app during warm-ups or recovery (toe reaches, advanced quad stretch, etc.).
Will my flexibility eventually improve just by doing the workouts, or should I be adding extra routines on top of the standard training?

In any case, I sit a lot for work in front of a computer, so I’m thinking of adding some stretching from time to time.
Here’s my question: which routine should I choose? I was thinking about doing “360° Flexibility” (9–11 min) and/or “Full Body Stretch” (4 min).

Are these good options? I’m considering doing “360° Flexibility” at lunchtime or on rest days, and “Full Body Stretch” during quick breaks at work.

Is it possible to ask the Coach to add these sessions every day on top of the regular workouts?

Thanks in advance for your help.
Benjamin

Hi @bentt
Please keep in mind that flexibility is a marathon not a sprint
I do a 17 minute routine every day since July 2020 and I started to see / feel progresses in 2023.
You can mark the mobility workouts you mentioned as favourites (if this feature has already been rolled out), so you can select these using the coach screen.
To be honest, I’m quite sure that you have to go this extra mile and Coach Cooldown Stretching will not improve your mobility the way you wish.

I’m not sure I understand this bit so I’ll rephrase what I’m looking for.

I’ve never been flexible, I don’t expect quick results but I want to improve.
As I’m very sedentary at work, I’d like to do some exercises to get moving a bit more, so I thought that doing some stretching would (partly) correct 2 problems:

  • limit my sedentary lifestyle at work
  • improve my flexibility.

So I’ll be doing the normal sessions with the coach from the programme I’ve chosen

  • I’ll be adding stretching to those already suggested by the coach

But if I understand your message correctly, if I want to improve my flexibility, what freeletics offers isn’t enough and I have to look elsewhere for this particular thing?

What I meant was: only the coach assigned stretches within warmup and cooldown won’t be enough to improve. These are just meant to warm your muscles up and to give you a gentle stretch afterwards destroying yourself.
You have to do the way you plan.
Besides the in-app stretching intervals, you could also give YouTube a try. There are really good stretches from Mady Morrison (especially those without talking).

ok thank you

I am doing the FL 360 flexibility stretches every morning. I think they are great.
Also, I can recommend YIN Yoga for flexibility.
