I’ve been a long-time Freeletics user and I’m genuinely asking this, not trying to start a rant.
The last announcement in the News section was Ultimate Burn back in April. Since then, staff replies have become rare. Idil has been jumping in on a few bug threads, which is appreciated, but most new posts in Bugs, Feature Requests and App Feedback sit at zero replies, or only get answered by other users.
@GianLuke summed it up well in the app feed recently. The forum feels abandoned, the Help Centre doesn’t cover the Ultimate journeys, the barbell and weight journey info still refers to the old feedback system, and a large part of the 700+ exercises are excluded from the Training Journeys.
The community keeps posting detailed feedback and bug reports, with very little sign of what happens to them.
Could someone from the team please give us a short update on:
Whether the forum is still the right place for feedback, and if not, where it should go?
What’s on the roadmap for the app over the next 6 to 12 months?
Does the quiet period mean a big update is in the works, or that development has slowed down?
Even a short answer would go a long way. A lot of us pay for the Coach and want to keep using it.
Thank you for writing and being constructive about this. Your questions and expectations are fair.
Without going too much into detail, we had some readjustments in the team followed by overlapping absences, which did not allow us to be as responsive as we intended to be.
That being said, the forum is still the place to share feedback, and we made some adjustments on our side to be more responsive here. I’ll also soon try to give visibility on the topics we have been working on and what we plan to do in the upcoming weeks.
Hi Tom, thanks for the mention. I’m really glad to see that others share these exact thoughts.
My main concern is that the Freeletics team pushed us to migrate to this official forum to unify a community that was previously split across local groups. Up until about 5 years ago, we had a thriving and passionate community actively sharing advice, tips, and experiences about training and the app. At the same time, we had a responsive customer care team that actually replied to users’ emails—not always with perfect answers, but at least they showed up.
Since that migration, all that momentum has been lost. The community was the greatest asset of Freeletics, and it’s frustrating to see that the team is no longer supporting the people we once proudly called ‘Free Athletes’.
Thanks @idil really appreciate the honest answer. Good to hear the forum is still the right place for this.
Looking forward to the update on what the team has been working on and what’s coming next. Do you have a rough idea of when you’ll be able to post it?
@GianLuke agreed, the community has always been one of the best things about Freeletics. Hopefully this is the start of getting some of that back. It helps so much with motivation and for sticking to the app long term
Hey @TomG, here’s a rough preview of what we’re focusing on, without making any binding promises:
New users’ first experience: Most of our effort right now goes into how new users get started. We want to close the gap around starting fitness level, by adjusting onboarding and the first Coach workouts so they fit people better from day one.
A journey for hybrid athletes: We’re testing a new journey that combines traditional lifting with endurance training. I plan to share a post here soon to see if any athletes would like to join us in testing it.
Benchmark: We’re also working on a concept that checks Athlete’s level regularly within a Coach workout, so the progress is more visible and tangible.
I can’t share more details yet. Some of this will first roll out as a test, so we can see whether it actually improves workout quality and consistency. I’d be happy to hear your thoughts, though!
@GianLuke, you’re right to call the community Freeletics’ greatest asset, and I agree it’s crucial. I can’t speak to decisions made in the past. What I can say is that, on the product side, this year we made many updates to the Community tab and added features like tagging to support social aspect. I’m awae that this doesn’t replace or immediately create that sense of community. I just wanted to say that we want to improve the product in that direction, within our capacity.
In terms of bringing more of the exercises, yes that’s also in our radar. We received significant feedback on how some workout types get repetitive in Ultimate Journeys. We have been looking into ways to bring more variety without harming the workout quality but tbd on how and when this will come.
Thanks for the update—it’s reassuring to know that this is on your radar.
I completely agree with your point about workout quality: adding random variety just for the sake of it can actually hurt athletic progress and progressive overload.
In fact, my take is almost the opposite: rather than endless variety, what would really take Ultimate Strength to the next level is greater user agency over exercise priority and frequency.
Right now, certain foundational lifts are completely excluded from the Training Journeys even though they exist in the app’s single-exercise database. A prime example is the Barbell Shoulder Press (Military Press), which is arguably one of the most effective vertical pressing movements, yet the Coach only programs the Push Press in the barbell journeys.
I shared a detailed breakdown on this and a practical proposal on how to let athletes prioritize their preferred core lifts without compromising the Coach’s structure here:
Allowing users to tell the Coach “I want to focus on this core lift” and letting the algorithm program it consistently would solve the feeling of repetitiveness, preserve the scientific quality of the sessions, and give athletes the customization they need.
Would love to hear your thoughts on this approach!
I totally agree with you @GianLuke ! I think something that could also mitigate this is not to be restricted to the 12 weeks approach, an ongoing programming could enable the Coach to provide better periodisation and mesocycle while focusing on specific movements for a 4 weeks block. It seems that the Coach is trying to smash everything into only 12 weeks which gives that feeling of too much variety.
I find the new journey also interesting, would love to be an early tester! @idil When do you plan to give access to early testers?
Also thanks for the transparency.
Regarding variety vs focus: We have different type of Strength workouts as it’s highlighted in the Ultimate Journeys: Traditional Strength and HIIT Strength.
For traditional strength, the main-lift intervals come from a deliberately small pool of exercises that is designed to repeat over 8–10 sessions before moving on to another exercise for the same movement pattern (e.g. upper push). So the lack of variety there is intentional and it’s definitely not random. That might be less visible when sessions are moved or adapted. That said, I’ve noted the feedback on getting more control over the main lifts and on longer journeys for more dedicated progress.
The variety point I mentioned was about our other interval type, HIIT Strength, which are designed differently. And to point there is to increase the rotation within comparable exercises where suitable.
Upcoming journey: I’ll share a post here in the forum and make sure to tag you all.
