New performance Metric - the Daily Athlete Score (DAS)

Hey Uwe, thanks for sharing, very helpful for us! just to clarify, you don’t need a gadget (watch, band, strap, etc) to have your activities in Freeletics. Many of our users actually using phone and other apps (e.g. Strava) when they record activities like cycling and running. Would that be something you would consider?

In general, I do see your point on the score if you decide not to sync your other activities. Besides the logic, would seeing your other activities in the calendar be interesting for you?

Our intention with Base is not to be overreaching but rather have a simple approach to build consistency for the long term, which many people struggle during their fitness journeys. I’d understand if it is not something for everyone but just wanted to clarify :+1:

Hi idil, for me this is not important but would be overreaching if enforced. I do hit my 17 minutes simply by not having a car, not using elevators, and other sports activities. From an app-usage point of view, FL is a trainer that I can consult whenever I wish to train - which is really great. in this case my activities are logged via my phone since I chose to do so and which is something I do frequently.

I would find it rather overreaching if my scores are now rated down just because I am not logging every bit of my activities. Of course if anybody wants to do that fine by me but to force users to log everything by negative feedback is the opposite of good trainer advise TMHO. The DAS is now understandable and usable for me. If there is a base score next to DAS that others need to build consistency in the longterm is fine by me, but I think I don’t need that.

Of course, everything I wrote so far disregards the issue of technology interfaces and what trackers and recorders actually measure. For example, pushups are not well picked up by a number of trackers out there so that your base score may not at all be representative of activity.

Hope this helps,
Uwe

Same as @uwwo and @CrystalEYE. I am watching my activity levels by walking, cycling, running up the stairs, but I don’t log those and I don’t want to. I don’t want to start Strava every time I jump on my bike, just as I don’t log my bouldering with my Apple Watch - for me it is a nuisance. I pick up my phone/tap my Watch too much as it is, and I try to reduce it where I can.

If base affects consistency as I saw on this page, then it doesn’t make sense for me to look at my consistency or DAS.

There are so many details in this thread about how to make your numbers count, that I stopped following this topic or checking the scores a couple of months ago

regarding the strength score, i’m a bit confused as to why the upper body pull has supermen in it. because in my opinion this exercise is waaay easier than pullups or even muscleups. I got 20 reps of supermen (but can’t do any pullups) so I got a pretty good upper body pull score, which is kind of not representative imo.

My DAS decreased massively today because most of the scores don’t have any kettlebell exercises and I didn’t do any bodyweight exercises in a while that counted… hope there’ll be a few exercises for every journey in the future

Thanks for the feedback Anna :+1:t2: The DAS is still being developed so feedback like this is very useful.

yesterday i did the hardest god for me till now.

only got a score of 12 :frowning:
because it took me 33 minutes. is the DAS supposed to be like that?

i was like “hell yeah i really did it” but then looking at the score… :frowning:

I still believe DAS should be me vs me instead me vs other athletes within the same age group etc…

Daily Athlete Score Update: Consistency Logic Revamped!

We’re happy to announce the latest update to the Daily Athlete Score Consistency metric, supporting our holistic approach to fitness and lifelong healthy routine.

The Philosophy

Our philosophy emphasizes engaging in a physical activity every day for at least 17 minutes.
It can be your Coach day, any physical activity tracked in the app, light stretching, recovery activities, or a simple 17-minute walk on rest days.
We insist on building an “everyday” mindset to establish lasting workout habits.

Simplified Scoring

The new consistency logic is straightforward:
Hit your Base with Coach workouts, other Freeletics activities, or external workouts to earn consistency points. Your score directly reflects your active days. For example, if you hit your Base 45 out of 90 days, your consistency score will be 50.

Improved Calendar View

The updated calendar view will showcase all the days you’ve completed a Coach workout or engaged in another activity that meets your Base goal. This visual representation helps you “paint the calendar for lifelong fitness.”

Keep in Mind

You should avoid skipping rest days or performing demanding workouts every day. This update aims to provide a more accurate and motivating representation of your fitness journey. By syncing other workouts and engaging in various activities daily with different intensity, you can strive for your best score while maintaining a balanced and sustainable approach to fitness. Remember, if you need a break for any reason or if you are sick, take the time you need. You’ll have time to catch up later when you feel better.

Calendar did not change for me except colour is now orange instead of blue. Days on which I hit base target are still showing as a dot.

See image below

To be honest, that ist one of the worst update ever :see_no_evil:
My consistency dropped to 90 - although I never missed a planned coach day.
The connection between DAS and base now punishes all users not having a wearable sync`ed to Freeletics :person_shrugging:
As long as the tracked activities besides the coach don’t affect the coach, these two measurements should be separated.

Ok it’s showing now.
I was a bit haste.

But I agree with @melaLetics on the post above.
It should be a separate thing.
Not everyone uses a wearable and not everyone wants to track external activities.

I couldn’t agree more. If I were a freeletics developer, I would set this as optional for each user to give a freedom of choice. Especially in a situation where the freeletics app is by far not ready to log all activities and exercises (even something as easy as elliptical trainer). Integration with smart watch is just horrible. It creates duplicates as once the workout is sent from freeletics to watch (Samsung Health) and the very same workout is sent from watch to freeletics where it is logged again.

Couldn’t agree more to the people above. My DAS dropped from 62 to 48, pretty disappointing after working hard to be consistent.
Imo you shouldn’t have to have a wearable to have a good DAS and even if, you have to manually open the app every day to get it. With Strava it’s way easier as it imports everything automatically… something like this works at best to better your DAS then to worsen it…

I would love to see more journeys in the Freeletics app, such as yoga, biking, swimming, or those that include a training vest, TRX, etc. A better journey configurator would be a superb update that would serve everyone (for example: “I would like [Shred & Burn] focused on my legs” or “I would like [Freeletics Hardcore] focused on my arms and core”).

If you want to engage your users more, give us optional yoga/stretching mini-workouts on free days. Maybe add something like a “morning routine” or “before bedtime routine” - a few extra exercises that will aid our recovery, help us wind down at the end of the day or take off after waking up.

Yeah, mine dropped from 90 to 36…
but adding workouts in the health app like yoga, does’nt sync with the daily 17 minutes anymore.

edit: ok i had to reactivate the sync in the settings
so yeah… for me it will be a change in looking forward to track 17 minutes everyday now.

How can you explain to have 21 perfect weeks and a 64% score?

My D.A.S. stays quite low, because my consistency value is low. And that is a pity. Because I run, road and trail, 4 times a week as well. Being quite consistent with doing at least 6 times Sport a week.
For me the D.A.S. has no value at all uf I am not able to log my other sport units in the app.
Or having a connection to for example Garmin so the other activities are synchronized as well.
At the moment the D.A.S. is useless for me, and my focus on Garmin. Because there I can register my strength workouts. And have full overview.
Curious about your opinion regarding this.

I don’t know about Garmin but a little while ago polar asked me if I wanted to work with health connect (which supports Freeletics) and since my DAS dropped a lot as well I think I’ll synchronise it more often to get the consistency up again. So, you could have a look if it supports health connect, but you’d have to synchronise it every day that you do something.
I think this whole system is far from perfect btw, but it is a way to get it up again, if you’re doing stuff anyway
