I see numbers like “24 high knees” or “18 hammer curls” in the app. Are those numbers for each side or total?
For example should I do 18 curls with my right and another 18 with my left arm, or should it be 18 total?

It is always total reps. If it is counted only for one side (like Side Plank Crunches), then the naming will indicate it (like “Left Side” Plank Crunches). Same with weighted exercises.

So on a 12X mountain climber I need to do 6 with each leg?
