Training for disabled people

Hello everyone,

I have been a fitness enthusiast for 10 years but unfortunately I got sepsis which also caused spinal cord injury which left me paralyzed from neck down. It’s over a year now and I have regained a lot of my strength in upper limbs but I can’t walk without crutches since sadly there is no cure for spinal cord injury. But I won’t give up my goal which is to walk without crutches.
I found Freeletics in my Revolut subscription and I find it amazing but (correct me if I’m wrong) I can’t find or modify a training program for my goals. I will make also an introduction but I think this will bring a lot of attention from the disabled community if there was a program that could be modified due to specific needs of the disabled person. For example I can’t do burpees like my program suggested, I can do core exercises, stretching, muscle exercises for upper and lower body but with limited movement like running can be excluded right? I can do arm bands and dumbbell exercises. If you think it is a good idea I can provide more detail and help you realize it.
Other than that I think the app is great but there are a lot of disabled people like I am with no physiotherapy (can’t afford it) and im sure it would be a good idea to implement it.

Hi and thank you for sharing your experience and your feedback regarding Freeletics.

The Coach is currently designed based on the assumption that Athletes training with the Freeletics app are in good general health without specific pre-existing conditions. The algorithms that generate your training plan are built around this premise. While the app does offer adaptation options in case of muscle soreness or temporary load reduction, it doesn’t allow for the deep and specific modifications needed to accommodate conditions like yours.

From a technical standpoint, the way the Coach is structured makes it impossible to fully adapt a training plan to such specific needs. Additionally, if we were to provide such a training plan, we would need to ensure its suitability and safety for every Athlete that need a specific adaptation. Training with a condition or injury requires a highly personalized approach that considers individual specificities, and the Freeletics Coach is currently not equipped to do this. Such situations require medical guidance, which falls outside the scope of Freeletics.

If your doctor has given you clearance to exercise, the most suitable approach with the app would be to manually select the exercises you can perform safely. You can then use the workout builder feature to make your own individual workouts using these exercises and create your training routine.

I understand your wish for the Coach to offer this level of personalization, but these adaptations are unfortunately not possible at that time. We appreciate your suggestion and definitely will take your feedback into consideration for future developments.

Wishing you all the best in your continued fitness journey.
