I’ve been playing around with the settings and there doesn’t seem to be a consistent approach to workouts generation: with the same settings I can get wildly different workouts - different reps, different weights, different exercises. I’m sure there is a logic behind the algorhytm and I believe it’s good to be able to generate different workouts until I find something I like. However there should be a way to roll back I think: maybe I like what I see for tomorrow, I decide to go longer and I change the time available. It makes the workout longer, but also changes exercises and I don’t like this version anymore. So I go back to the previous settings, but the workout is different once again and I can’t get back to the original one, even with the same settings I had before.
This post is really interesting. It would be great if someone from the Freeletics team could answer it in detail.
I’m currently doing ultimate strength 50% in. i’ve done a variety of different journeys, including my favorite, hybrid strength. I even like one of their running ones which helped me keep pace on tempo runs and hitt sprints.
all that aside, I will say that ultimate strength seems to be easier than hybrid strength. kind of weird given the name. for example, in hybrid strength, the warm-ups give you a numbered interval of things you need to do while ultimate strength just does 25 second countdown so think 10 Burpee versus 25 seconds of burpees. I’ll also say hybrid strength. It was consistent with an upper body day, lower body day and definitely a hitt day. Ultimate strength seems to be a little less intense with some sets, removing an entire set of warm-ups or removing an entire set of maximum effort. more like maybe two warm-up sets of bench and then just 2 to 3 sets of the workouts instead of maybe 3 to 4 sets of high reps high weights. some exercises great, but I would say that if you’re looking to get the most value out of your time, even if the workout is completely difficult ultimate strength might not be the move.
I wish there was a way to go back and see what journeys I completed specifically.
I feel exactly the same. Ultimate strength feels random compared to Hybrid, and also for me who’s a novice (on/off) the challenges are too intense.
Even if I ask for different sessions the same session keeps coming back the next day: 2x Styx (already at 160 squats here) then the next exercise is 4/5 Athena which adds up to 230 squats for one session.
I’m also seeing inconsistent stretching, for days I’ve had stomach exercises, I receive no stomach stretch etc.
It all feels a bit random, so I might switch back even if I’m halfway through.
Hey @mattia.cattini thank you for sharing your feedback. Short response is that it should not be the case, regarding not getting the same session when you remove adaptations
However there should be a way to roll back
If you remove all adaptations, you should see the original session restored. If this isn’t happening, could you send a short screen recording in a direct message showing your steps? For example:
-
Show the original day’s session
-
Apply an adaptation to generate a new session
-
Remove all adaptations
-
Show that the returned session is not the same as the original
That will help us pinpoint what’s happening in your case. Thanks a lot for taking the time
Also to your point @mattia.cattini regarding the lack of consistent approach
As a general overview, there is definitely a consistent logic behind workout and interval construction. Without going into excessive detail, each interval is built to target specific movement patterns, with reps and weights selected to create a particular training stimulus. The variety you’re seeing across sessions comes from how multiple valid combinations can satisfy those same training goals.
I truly appreciate you sharing these questions and concerns—it makes me realize that we could do a better job explaining the algorithm and some of the intentional decisions we make behind the scenes.
If you are up to it, you could schedule a short chat with me, I could invite a colleague from our algorithm team, so you can describe your issue more specifically and share your feedback further. Calendly
To clarify, I do see the original session if I remove all the settings. But if I have something selected (even if its the same setting of the original session) I can generate multiple workouts and it’s not clear the logic behind. And if I generate a new workout which I kinda like, then I generate a new one, there is no way to roll-back to the previous one. I need to keep generating until I find that workout again (if it does happen at all). I will be travelling until end of Aug, so happy to jump in a call, but I’ll get back to you in early sept. ![]()
