Why is still a thing??
Agreed, im just continuing on another journey why doesn’t it know this and what weights I’m using. The whole point of an app is so I dont have to track and write it down.
The answer is still the same when this has been raised previously.
Almost all good weights training plans will include regular RM assessments/tests. Even if you were seeing a Personal Trainer in a gym they will get you doing this at the end of each training cycle to ensure the training continues at the correct level, and this is absolutely no different.
Performing a 1-rep or 10-rep max test like that in the assessment is an intense and demanding activity in itself, one that puts a significant strain on your muscles.
You can skip it completely by selecting the “I don’t currently train…” option and the Coach will default on to your training history, but why not take the opportunity to do a dedicated 10 rep max test like in almost every half decent training programme?
HI Ben, it doesnt explain that at all. Youve stated that rather than going back on my records and inputting my latest weights I should be doing some sort of weight test here is that right? in respect to the test what should I be aiming for 1RM or 6x/8x etc?
If you want the Coach to carry on where it left off, you can do this by selecting the “I don’t currently train with barbells” option in the assessment.
But, you can also use it as an opportunity to do a 1RM test or similar.
Most studies suggest a 5RM test provides the most accurate predictor of one’s 1RM.
Doing this, and providing this information gives the Coach a very accurate indicator of your 1RM.
It really is very good practice to do this after a training cycle. If you were seeing a personal trainer in a gym, they would absolutely have you doing this after a 12 week training cycle, even though they would know what you’ve been lifting the last few weeks.
Cool - thx for sharing that. Maybe the app could explain that a bit more cos you dont know what you dont know!!
While you are here - are there any plans to integrate plans so you can do a mix of barbell and dumbell workouts over a week? or how about rowing?
You can already do this to a certain extent in the Hybrid Strength TJ, but I know that is not really the solution you are looking for exactly.
I think in an ideal world this would possible. So you would be able to train with exactly what equipment you want, when you want, and not be constrained by any Training Journey limitations or restrictions.
We don’t share our development plans so unfortunately I can’t fully answer your question
