From Epic Beginnings to Next-Level Freeletics: My Wishlist for the App

Hi Free Athletes!

When I first stumbled across the Freeletics app in the App Store, it blew my mind. Back then, it was revolutionary—workouts you could do anywhere, no need to hit a specific spot or lug around weights. It delivered on every promise, and I had an absolute blast using it. For a while, I switched to the Gym version of Freeletics, and wow—those sessions were brutal but amazing. Short, intense exercises that completely torched my muscles (in the best way possible—I loved it!).

Over the years, life got in the way, and I haven’t been able to use it as consistently as I’d like. I’ve lost track of the app’s progress and all the changes it’s gone through. So, speaking from where I’m at now—considering my current lifestyle, expectations, and the competition out there—here’s what I’d love to see Freeletics bring to the table:

  • Location Tracking: I live in an area with outdoor parks that have equipment or space to run, but other times I’m in a gym with all the gear. It’d be awesome if the app could adapt to where I am and suggest workouts based on what’s available. Each location could store the available equipment, and if it’s my first time there, I’d just add the equipment or available space myself—super handy for customizing on the go.
  • More Equipment Options: Not just gym gear—think everyday stuff like chairs, tables, couches, or even stairs, plus things like TRX-style bands and regular balls, like footballs, basketballs, or other kinds. It’d make workouts more creative and accessible.
  • Meditation: This would be perfect for winding down post-workout, starting the day, or even relaxing before bed. A little mindfulness could go a long way.
  • Nutrition: Having this built into the app, with the Coach guiding me, would be a game-changer. Imagine not needing to bounce to another app—just getting daily or weekly meal ideas tailored to my goals.

I know some of these might already be floating around in the ‘Features Requested’ section, but I wanted to share my take on how these could work for me.

Forgot to mention one more thing: we should be able to give feedback on each exercise within a set. For example, take a set like this:

  • 10 pull-ups
  • 10 squats
  • 10 push-ups

The whole set might feel tough, but only because I can’t do one exercise—like pull-ups—without stopping. The others, like squats and push-ups, I can breeze through without getting out of breath. Being able to flag that in the app would really help tailor the workouts better.

you can report this problem. when you say in the feedback question that you were not able to do all exercises well (I think it must be the second feedback option - OK or something like this) then the coach asks you with which exercises you had problems and you can select the respetive ones from the list.

They used to have mindfulness and mediation exercises in the app. But it was removed at some point, probably due to low demand.

I second the location feature (even made a feature request on my own). Currently, you can adapt your coach sessions with either “no equipment available” or “all equipment available”. There is no in-between.

Plus, they recently announced a big update which shall integrate many more gear while allowing for more flexible combinations in training journeys.

Hey @Christian,

as far as I know they moved it out of the app. So there was some sort of offer on the homepage for new users with other apps. There is a topic already in the forum regarding this.

Regarding the “Big Update”. They posted on instagram that it would be coming today. But now they only posted some “Used sport clothing shop” joke and still no update for me which is very disappointing. And not only just me don’t get it. I think I just read like 20 people on reddit who all canceled their sub…

Marketing at its best.

Can’t wait to see the new big update.
I currently using beta version and don’t got any new update yet.

I dont think there will be an update today..

The posted stories on IG concerning the big update today / morning seem to be a unique stair joke on April 1st. Not the best one, to be honest. You don’t have to be a super empath to recognize the not-so-positive, tense mood among customers right now. But maybe I’ve grown too old to understand this kind of joke. :person_shrugging:t2:
