Add RIR (Reps in Reserve) as an advanced option to help guide intensity

Hi everyone,

I’ve been using Freeletics consistently for over a year now, and I just want to say how much I appreciate the evolution of the app and the flexibility it offers. Thanks to it, I’ve lost over 20 kg and have managed to stay active in a sustainable and enjoyable way.

That said, I’d like to propose a feature that could benefit more advanced users — or anyone interested in strength training, hypertrophy, or body recomposition:

Would it be possible to include RIR (Reps in Reserve) as an optional, advanced setting in the workouts?
This would help users understand how much effort is expected in each set or exercise, and where they are in the training cycle (e.g. accumulation, intensity, deload). It’s a concept widely used in evidence-based strength training, and could be shown as a small note or range (e.g. “Leave 1–2 reps in the tank”).

To keep the experience simple for beginners, it could be turned off by default and activated manually in the app settings.

I believe this would bring great value to users who want to train more intentionally — without changing the core experience for others.

Would love to hear if others would find this helpful too. Let’s make some noise if you agree!

Thanks again to the Freeletics team for constantly improving the app.

I second that. At least when rating the perceived exertion after an exercise.

Some journeys did that but with the Ultimate Strength journey I can rate ok, easy, too easy, hard and too hard. (Not sure if these are the English terms wins my app is in German). This feels too much subjective in contrast to an objective rating of RIR.
