Exercise instructions

I’d like to highlight an issue with accessing exercise instructions in the app and propose a solution to improve usability.

Problem

  1. Written instructions are hard to find: The instructions are hidden behind the “Play Video” button, making them nearly undiscoverable. I didn’t know they existed until reading about them on this forum, and many users might never realise they’re there.
  2. Dependence on network speed: Accessing text instructions requires loading the video. On slow networks - like in basement gyms with poor Wi-Fi (my case) or regions with slower internet - videos take too long to load or fail, leaving the instructions inaccessible.
  3. Checking repetitions is cumbersome: A common need is to check how repetitions are counted - per side or in total. This should be quicker than loading a video.
  4. Limited visual perspectives: Some exercises require viewing from different angles to check form. For example, during pull-ups, I wanted to check body alignment from the side but couldn’t, as the workout video only shows the front view, and I couldn’t load the full video nor the instructions due to slow connectivity.

Proposed solutions

  1. Written instructions should be easily accessible: Add a direct “Instructions” button on the exercise screen.
  2. Add still images (less critical if suggestion 1 is implemented): . Include still images from multiple angles to help users understand form. Even schematic images would work if easier to implement.

I include just some of the topics where users asked questions because they couldn’t find written instructions:
