Foam Roller caused injured rib

An acquaintance of mine recently injured a rib with a Lat Roll (requiring a Foam Roller).

A physiotherapist told them using a Foam Roller near or on the rib cage is a bad idea in general, telling them to refrain from doing exercises that require it.

I thought I’d let this know just in case.

Was such advice considered during implementation?
How to prevent such accidents from happening?

I am no professional but I think you need to make sure to only roll/massage the muscle, never a bone or an area where the tissue is very thin.
