Ultimate Strength - HIIT Strength Barbell Warmup

Ultimate Strength actual warmup?

I just started Ultimate strength. As I’m coming from a pure max-strength training block, I decided to step away from heavy-barbell work for a bit, so I selected only hiit-strength. Now, for standard strength I see the plan suggesting typical ramping sets up to 2 or 3 top heavy sets on compound lifts. For hiit strength there is no ramping, so you are straight into heavyish moderate-range reps. Like this morning I did 2x10 Romanian Deadlifts with 92.5kg. I can rep out 170kg on regular deadlifts (after a decent ramping) so 92.5kg for 10 isn’t very heavy for me, however that’s a typical 3rd or 4th set for me normally (I’d do like 1 set with 50kg, one with 70kg and then I’m into the 90s). Going straight into 92.5kg without even a minimal ramping seem to be a good way to pull something. I see on Friday I have push-presses 10reps with 55kg. That’s into the heavyish side for me and I know for sure it’s gonna be too much without a bit of ramping. Without a ramping is also difficult to assess if the weight it’s too much and how much to reduce… I don’t know, I kinda like how things look on paper, but I feel there’s a bit of proper warming up missing. What do you guys think?

Totally agree

I changed my setting to have a look and I agree! there should be some sort of barbell warm up if a barbell exercise is listed in the first interval.

Hey Mattia :waving_hand:

Great point, and you’re right :+1:

HIIT Strength doesn’t currently include ramp-up sets, unlike Traditional Strength, which is where we program our heaviest lifts and include warmup sets.

That said, improving warm-up guidance across the board is something we are currently working on. In the meantime, given the weight you are lifting we would recommend adding ramp-up sets as needed :+1:
